Frequently Asked Questions
What do you offer for new puppy owners?
The best option for new puppies is to get them enrolled in Puppy School. This is a 6-week foundation course available for puppies from 8-20 weeks of age at the point of their first class. Your puppy needs to be fully vaccinated to attend or if they only have one vaccination, they can attend with your vet’s consent. We also suggest booking a 1:1 to help with specific at-home issues and attending our Puppy Club sessions for added socialisation opportunities.
Puppy class doesn’t start for a few weeks. What should I be doing until then?
Puppy School will give you the foundations to bring you up to adolescence but you want to be focusing on your puppy’s socialisation and confidence-building prior to starting classes. Many clients find it useful to have at least one 1:1 session prior to starting Puppy School to make sure that the basics of routine, house training, early socialisation and puppy biting are addressed as early as possible. We offer 30 minute drop-in Puppy Club sessions where you can start gently increasing your puppy’s confidence and allowing them to meet calm adult dogs.
My dog barks excessively, do you have a course to help?
There are many reasons that your dog may be barking. Your best option is to book a free 15 minute consultation call to discuss this with one of us and we will be able to advise whether this is best dealt with in a 1:1 or group setting
Do you do home visits?
Yes, we offer home visits as well as online and park training, though the type of behaviour we need to work on will dictate whether this is best served online or in-person. Please book a free 15 minute consultation call to discuss this with one of us and we will be happy to advise which platform is right for you and your dog and to discuss our availability
Should I join a class or have one to one training?
This is going to depend on what you wish to work on and we have plenty of options available. We would love to chat more with you to find out which format of training is going to work best for you and your dog.
Do you train assistance dogs?
Not directly, we currently do not have our own assistance dog syllabus, nor any affiliations with an accredited assistance dog body. You can go to the assistance dogs UK website (www.assistancedogs.org.uk) to find a list of members. Alternatively, some companies have self-train options where they provide you with the learning materials and you train the dog and pass their assessments. We have many clients using our trainers to assist their training journey and we would love to speak to you if you think this is an avenue you would like to pursue.
Do you train husbands too?
Yes! In fact, one of our trainers IS a husband so he knows exactly what to do!
Can I bring my children to classes?
Yes, we absolutely welcome the whole family to engage with the classes. Children are often brilliant at dog training so we encourage them to take part. For everyone to benefit from the class environment and for safety, we ask that children stay with an adult at all times, not approaching the other dogs and are as non-disruptive as possible.
How many sessions will I need?
This can depend on many factors including how established any problem behaviours are, consistency and frequency of training and more. Our aim is to establish your end goal and get you there in a prompt and sustainable manner. Please book a free 15 minute consultation call to discuss this with one of us and we will be happy to advise further. The one thing we can say is that many of our clients stay with us once they have fixed something and look forward to stepping up their training to the next level!
What happens if I need to miss a week?
Missing a week due to illness or holidays etc is common. For workshops and 1:1 training we have a 48 hour cancellation policy, group classes are 7 days. If you need to miss a class that is part of a block i.e. Puppy School unfortunately we aren’t able to move you to another course once you are inside the 7 day cancellation period but you will have plenty of notes and learning resources to practise with and we’ll do our best to make additional time for you to help answer any questions you may have.
